No prior experience is required.
Our classes are suitable for all levels, and our instructors provide options and modifications for beginners through to advanced clients.
We deliver a contemporary style of Pilates that takes the classical Pilates exercises and makes them more accessible for students.
Pilates is a broader exercise system that contains hundreds of exercises across the different types of apparatus/equipment. Most of these exercises are physically and technically challenging, so our approach is to modify the exercise and to break it down into component parts, while focusing on control and precision. Once students can master the foundational movements, we start to progress them towards the full movement using a gradual, step-by-step approach.
It’s best to wear comfortable sportswear that is either close or form-fitting.
For female participants, shorts, leggings, vests and t-shirts that allow your instructor to see your joints and alignment work well. A supportive sports bra is also advisable.
For male participants, shorts, t-shirt or vests work best because these again allow our teachers to observe joint alignment and range of movement.
Having some extra layers to put on at the beginning and end of the class during the opening and closing phase can be useful, especially during the cooler months.
Loose and baggy clothing isn’t appropriate for Pilates sessions using the equipment (Reformer/Tower) because they have the potential to get trapped in the mechanics of the equipment.
All participants will be required to wear grip socks during reformer and tower sessions and there are no exceptions here. These can be purchased in the studio, or online ahead of your class.
Our instructors reserve the right not to allow you to participate if you are not dressed appropriately.
We do not have a waiting room so it’s best not to arrive too early if you have a booking.
All of our timetabled classes have a 15-minute break between them to allow for previous students to leave, and new students to arrive.
If you are completely new to Pilates and you want to meet your teacher before the class starts, if you arrive 10-minutes before the class starts, this should be plenty of time to introduce you to the studio and apparatus (if required).
For returning students, if you arrive 5-minutes before your class is due to start, then this should be plenty of time.
If you have an injury or pain, it’s best to consult a medical professional (doctor, physiotherapist) before you perform any new activity.
Pilates is a relatively low-risk form of exercise that has many therapeutic benefits, particularly for people with low-level pain (e.g., non-specific low back pain). Many of our students do report a significant improvement after only a few weeks of participating in Pilates. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether it is appropriate for you to participate in our classes and we would always encourage you to speak to a medical professional before making a decision.
Our instructors will ask all participants if they have any injuries or medical conditions at the start of our classes. At this stage, they may decide that it is not safe for you to participate if you do disclose more complex injuries or health conditions that they do not feel they can accommodate, or if they have more serious safety concerns.
All of our instructors are competent at adapting exercises to suit the individual needs of students, so if you do have low-level injuries and pain that you would like to work around, often our instructors can support this and our students find that the sessions support their recovery and management.
All of our classes are mixed ability, which means we cater to all abilities, both in terms of physical fitness, but also technical mastery of the exercises.
If our instructors can see that you are capable of working harder or achieving more from your session, they will show you how to progress the movement to access those benefits. Alternatively, if they can see you are struggling with certain aspects of a class, they will discretely show you how to modify the movement to improve your movement quality and control.
All of our classes are fully inclusive and can be completed by beginner, intermediate or advanced Pilates enthusiasts.
