Matwork Pilates

Our Pilates matwork classes are low-impact sessions for mixed ability groups. They are performed on a mat and involve exercises that use your own bodyweight, gravity, and some small studio equipment to improve core stability, strength, movement control, alignment and flexibility.

Reformer Pilates

Our reformer Pilates classes are dynamic and engaging Pilates sessions that are inclusive and suitable for all students regardless of their ability. Using the reformer, these sessions will include a range of spring-loaded Pilates exercises performed from different bodily positions to develop core strength, alignment and improved muscle tone.

Reformat

Reformat classes are exclusive to Realign Pilates and combine reformer, matwork exercises, and small studio equipment exercises into a single session. These integrated classes honour how Pilates was intended to be taught, combining multiple exercises and equipment into a single session to meet the needs of every student.

Pilates Tower

Our Pilates tower classes are suitable for students that have at least 3 months experience with matwork and reformer sessions and who want to progress physically and mentally on their Pilates journey. Using a range of spring loaded and supported bodyweight exercises, these sessions target more specific and advanced dimensions of strength and stability.

If you want a fully individualised Pilates experience that tailors the exercises and class format to your specific needs, our one-to-one sessions may be just what you are looking for. Most of our teachers offer one-to-one sessions and these can be booked directly with the teachers, or arranged via this website.

About Pilates

Pilates is a low-impact system of exercise that was originally created by Joseph Pilates, initially to improve his own ill-health, but latterly for his students. The foundations of his work were originally used to treat injured soldiers returning from WWI, and later in his life he worked from a New York studio where he helped professional dancers to return to the stage after injury.

Originally called Contrology, Pilates is a comprehensive exercise system comprising over 20 distinct pieces of equipment (usually called apparatus). Some of the more common pieces of apparatus include the reformer, Cadillac (which includes a tower), chair, ladder barrel and spine corrector.

Here at Realign, we have a range of Pilates equipment, big and small, to ensure that every student is able to realise their potential in our Pilates sessions, both group and one-to-one..
